My hair is a huge part of my creative self-expression; I am most confident and feel most myself when it’s freshly colored. I travel often for work (and life!) and my hair is subjected to unpredictable water, dehydration from changing climates, and damage from styling—all of which wreak havoc on my color-treated hair and cause my perfect purple to fade fast.
To keep my color looking fresh for as long as possible, I decided to take Briogeo’s Color Me Brilliant™ challenge: 25 washes in 50 days across five cities with our Color Me Brilliant™ hair care system.
The launch of our new Color Me Brilliant color protection Collection—a clean hair care system that helps protect hair from color fade and maintain vibrancy for longer—aligned perfectly with my fresh color treatment and provided the perfect opportunity to give it a test drive. I challenged myself to wash my hair every other day with the Mushroom + Bamboo Shampoo and Conditioner and put our unique Color Preservation Complex to the test (a combo of Turkey Tail Mushroom and Bamboo Leaf Extract to protect hair against color fade).
My Wash Day Routine:
Cleanse: I massaged the Mushroom + Bamboo Color Protect Shampoo into wet hair from root to tip, then rinsed. Pro tip: I swapped my regular shampoo for the Scalp Revival Micro-exfoliating Shampoo one-to-two days before my color treatment appointment. The Binchotan Charcoal helped to detoxify my hair and scalp, allowing my color to absorb evenly, while the tea tree, spearmint, and peppermint oils kept my scalp healthy and balanced.
Condition: After cleansing, I applied the Mushroom + Bamboo Color Protect Conditioner evenly from mid-shaft to ends, then left it on for two minutes before rinsing. Pro tip: Healthy hair absorbs and reflects color more evenly, and color treating can strip and damage my already weakened strands. Once a week, I used our Don’t Despair, Repair!™ Deep Conditioning Mask in place of conditioner to help prep my hair for color treatments and repair any damage done after.
Styling: I regularly heat style my hair, which can cause my color to fade fast, so the Mushroom + Bamboo Color Protect Primer was really my star hero of this collection! It protects my hair from heat styling up to 450°F and it’s lightweight enough that I’m not afraid to use it on my crown and bangs (where I tend to use most of my heat); it doesn't weigh them down or make them look greasy. I applied a small amount into my hands and worked it through clean, damp hair from root to tip, then styled as normal.
The results:
The Color Me Brilliant™ Shampoo and Conditioner were game-changers for my purple tresses. Like all Briogeo products, this duo doesn't contain harsh sulfates so I knew it wouldn’t strip my color. What surprised me, though, is that not only was my color not “stripped,” it maintained that shiny, first-day color look that made me feel so confident!
However, the primer was the real stand-out formula for me. It helped protect my strands from heat damage and gave me freedom from fading. Plus, the naturally powerful Color Protection Complex worked to maintain my color’s vibrancy and kept my strands moisturized without weighing them down. I definitely plan to incorporate this collection into my healthy hair routine from here on out.
